ACUPUNCTURE IVF & IUI SUPPORT

Many couples dealing with infertility issues have turned to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), in hopes that it will result in a pregnancy. Acupuncture treatments can be used along with reproductive technologies, such as IVF, IUI and ICSI, to boost the chances of a successful conception. When combining reproductive technologies with fertility acupuncture, my clients have experienced impressive results in getting pregnant! There have been various studies performed on how acupuncture can help increase the effectiveness of assisted reproductive therapies to improve the best possible outcome and increase live birth rates.

  • In one study, 160 participants were divided into two groups. One received acupuncture before and after the embryo transfer. The other group did not

  • The clinical outcome documented that 42.5% of patients in the acupuncture group became pregnant

  • Only 26.3% of participants in the non-acupuncture group became pregnant

  • The study concluded that acupuncture is a useful tool for improving pregnancy rates when used in conjunction with assisted reproductive therapies

For the best possible outcome, it is best to prepare for IVF with acupuncture treatments three months ahead of time. Treatment Plans may vary depending on the type of cycle, Fresh embryo transfer or Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET).

Dr. Zhao's Acupuncture-Assisted IVF Treatment Plan

  • Three menstrual cycles before IVF: Begin acupuncture treatment, with sessions on days 7-10 and 15-20 of each menstrual cycle. The goal during this phase is to regulate hormone levels, improve ovarian function, and prepare the uterine lining for IVF.

  • Ovulation Induction phase: After starting IVF treatment, especially during the ovulation induction phase, have 2-3 acupuncture sessions per week. This helps support the ovaries' response to the stimulation medications and increases the chances of conception.

  • Post-Egg Retrieval until Embryo Transfer: Following egg retrieval, continue with one acupuncture session to alleviate potential side effects and promote recovery.

  • Day of Embryo Transfer: On the day of embryo transfer, we encourage patient to have one acupuncture session before and after the transfer.

  • Post-Embryo Transfer until Pregnancy Test: Have one acupuncture session per week to support implantation and early pregnancy.

This is a general plan, and acupuncture-assisted IVF treatment should be customized based on individual patient circumstances
